Holy Week in Olesa de Montserrat
Holy Week in Olesa de Montserrat features a full program that combines tradition, culture and citizen participation around the Mysteries, one of the most unique and deeply rooted elements of the municipality.
The preliminary events include a talk on the history of the Mysteries, as well as various thematic exhibitions, such as "Processions in Olesa" and "Religious Ornamentation," which allow visitors to discover the evolution and meaning of this tradition. A highlight is a Palm Sunday concert featuring Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, which adds a musical and emotional dimension to the program.
One of the most special moments is the Mass of the Mysteries, which features the Santa Maria choir and includes a performance by the Esbart Olesà with the traditional Moixiganga dance. The celebration culminates with a small procession in which the Christ of the Agony is carried to its place of display, reinforcing the communal nature of the event.
The centerpiece of the program is the Route of the Mysteries, which takes place over several days with guided tours at various times. This route allows visitors to explore the streets of Olesa and discover up to 11 scenes distributed throughout the town, such as the Agony in the Garden, the Flagellation, the Way of the Cross, and the Holy Sepulchre. As shown on the map on page 2, the route transforms the town into a truly artistic and spiritual journey.
During the Easter Triduum, the program includes the celebration of the Last Supper, the Liturgy of the Passion with the Stations of the Cross, and various religious acts that keep the tradition alive. A prayer-concert is also organized at the Mystery of the Kiss of Judas, combining spirituality and music in a unique setting.
The proposal is complemented by cultural activities such as film screenings followed by discussions, social media contests, and participatory initiatives for children and young people linked to the Route of the Mysteries.
