Vallès Occidental is a region located in the interior of Catalonia, just north of Barcelona, known for its industrial and economic activity, its natural parks and a rich historical and cultural heritage. With dynamic cities such as Sabadell and Terrassa, combined with quieter villages and green areas, Vallès Occidental offers a wide variety of experiences.
Terrassa, one of the two capitals of the region, is known for its important industrial past linked to the textile sector and for its modernist heritage. Of particular note is the former Vapor Aymerich, Amat y Jover, a modernist factory that today houses the Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia (mNACTEC), where you can discover the industrial past of the region. Terrassa also has an impressive modernist architectural heritage, such as the Masia Freixa, a modernist jewel inspired by the shapes of Gaudí. In addition, the city preserves the monumental complex of the Churches of Sant Pere, in Romanesque style, located in a unique natural setting.
Sabadell, the other capital, was also an important textile centre during the Industrial Revolution. Today, Sabadell is a bustling city with a wide range of commercial and cultural offerings. Its Gas Museum and the Water Tower, symbols of its industrial past, are some of its points of interest. In addition, Sabadell has large urban parks, such as the Parc de Catalunya, where residents can enjoy outdoor activities.
The Vallès Occidental is also known for its natural spaces. The San Lorenzo del Munt and Obac Natural Park is one of the most visited in the area. This mountain range offers hiking trails that lead to places such as the Sant Llorenç del Munt Monastery, located at the top of La Mola, from where you can enjoy spectacular views. It is an ideal space for nature lovers and outdoor sports.
The gastronomy of the Vallès Occidental combines the tradition of Catalan cuisine with modern influences. The haricot beans, a native variety, are highly appreciated in local cuisine. Fresh products can also be found in the markets of the region, which offer a wide variety of local fruit and vegetables.
Come and explore its dynamic cities, discover its modernist and industrial heritage and enjoy its natural parks . The Vallès Occidental is a diverse region where history and modernity coexist in an environment rich in culture and nature.
