Sostibaix, the sustainable fortnight of Baix Llobregat

The Baix Llobregat Tourism Consortium announces the third edition of Sostibaix, the sustainable fortnight of Baix Llobregat, an initiative that promotes local, socially responsible and environmentally friendly tourism.

Sostibaix, which will take place from October 15 to November 1, proposes a series of activities designed to raise public awareness about the importance of preserving the environment and highlighting the natural and cultural heritage of the region.

This year, over three weeks, businesses and organizations in the Baix Llobregat region are offering a wide range of activities for all ages. Among the offerings are a Clean Up Day in Collbató, mornings in the countryside to learn about organic farming and sample products directly from the fields, and a turtle rescue workshop.

The program also includes various activities in the Llobregat Delta, with walks and birdwatching outings that allow you to discover the richness of this natural space, its biodiversity and the numerous species that inhabit it.

In addition to environmental activities, the Sostibaix sustainable fortnight includes outstanding cultural offerings, such as a cultural walk along the Llobregat River, discovering the heritage of Carrabiners and the Semàfor through night photography, and guided tours of the Water Museum and its garden, with a focus on sustainability and biodiversity. Visitors can also explore the region sustainably and without a car with the "Baixa al Baix! Ferrocarrils t'hi porta" (Go to the Baix! Railways Take You There) and TRAM Route initiatives, which combine sustainable mobility with discovering the tourist attractions of the Baix Llobregat.

For wine tourism enthusiasts and lovers of local gastronomy, the Sostibaix program offers original activities, such as the Sustainability Through Intuition and Art with Wine workshop, which invites participants to connect with their personal commitment to sustainability and express it in a unique work of art; tastings at local wineries, such as Ramon Canals in Castellví de Rosanes, including a visit to its Wine Museum; and the culinary offerings of the restaurants in the Sabors de l'Horta collective, with the "Temps de Samfaina" campaign. This campaign is an opportunity to savor the different versions of this traditional dish that each restaurant offers, made with products from the Baix Llobregat Agricultural Park.

Sostibaix also emphasizes the social dimension of tourism. Therefore, it includes discovery days promoted by organizations in the Baix Llobregat region, such as a visit to the "És im-perfect" project by the Espigoladors association or a tasting at the Sagnier restaurant of the Rubricatus Foundation, featuring a surprise and sustainable menu that offers a firsthand look at their inclusive project.

The “Llobregat x Diabetis” journey and the Collbató Clean Up Day

In this third edition, the Baix Llobregat Tourism Consortium is collaborating with two initiatives that combine sustainability, the region, and social commitment on Sunday, October 18th. First, the "Llobregat x la Diabetis" charity swim, which will travel the Llobregat River from end to end, with a stop in the Baix Llobregat region, to raise awareness of type 1 diabetes and raise funds for the AREDI association. Second, the Collbató Clean Up Day, a day of environmental awareness and care that combines litter collection with a cultural visit and an olive oil tasting, highlighting the landscape, heritage, and local products.

A future strategy for sustainable tourism

The Sustainable Fortnight is part of the tourism sustainability strategy of the Baix Llobregat Tourism Consortium, an organization recognized by the Sustainable Barcelona Destination program and designated as a Smart Tourism Destination (DTI). The Consortium works in conjunction with businesses, organizations, and local councils to advance towards a more responsible, sustainable, and innovative tourism model.

This event offers an opportunity to discover the Baix Llobregat from a more environmentally friendly and socially conscious perspective, highlighting the region's commitment to a greener and more sustainable future.
