Monumental nativity scene of Parets del Vallès

Come and discover the largest monumental nativity scene in Catalonia on a 360º table in Parets del Vallès!

Nativity scene making in Parets has a long tradition that was formally organized in the 1960s, when a group linked to the Parish of Sant Esteve and the Parets Hiking Club (CEP) built the first monumental nativity scene. After a period of inactivity, the tradition was revived in 1986 with a tabletop nativity scene that grew to 300 m², entering the Catalan Book of Records in 1996. The nativity scene has varied in size between 180 and 230 m², and the scenery is renewed each year, inspired by landscapes of Catalonia and other places such as Petra.

This year, the proposal is dedicated to the municipality of Gallecs, with emblematic corners and 3D figures inspired by its members.

There are many ways to discover a town, but doing so through a 230 m² nativity scene is a truly unique experience. This year, the Parets Nativity Scene Association celebrates its 40th anniversary with an edition that invites visitors to closely observe the heritage and landscapes of Parets del Vallès and the Gallecs agroforestry area.

After recreating settings like Ancient Egypt, the Roman Empire, and the Canal du Midi, the organization returns home. What it considers the largest tabletop nativity scene in Catalonia will be transformed into a journey through nearby places, steeped in history and identity.

Among the landmarks that can be recognized are some of the most representative farmhouses in the area and the old church of Parets, burned down during the Civil War. An opportunity to rediscover familiar buildings and landscapes, recover the memory of vanished spaces, and be surprised by the details of each scene.

The display will also feature some very special participants: the members of the Agrupació themselves. Some figures will be based on three-dimensional models of members of the organization, as a tribute to the people who have made four decades of shared nativity scene making possible.

Craftsmanship and technology will once again converge in this exhibition. Since 2019, the Agrupació has incorporated 3D modeling and printing to create custom figures, architectural pieces, and decorative elements. In recent years, it has also explored artificial intelligence tools to resolve complex details while maintaining the essence of artisanal work.

The result will be a nativity scene that tells a story of proximity: that of a town, its surroundings and the people who bring its traditions to life.
