Giant Dances Showcase of Mataró

Mataró is preparing to experience a new edition of the Giants' Dance Showcase, a popular culture event that allows you to enjoy these festive figures from a different perspective and is specially designed for all audiences.

Unlike traditional giant parades, where groups march through the streets, this event presents the dances in a performance format. The audience can comfortably watch the performances and appreciate in detail the choreography, music, costumes, and movements of each participating figure.

Throughout its various editions, the exhibition has welcomed giants from numerous Catalan municipalities and other regions. Iconic figures from cities with a long tradition of giants have participated, as well as groups from Northern Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, and the Basque Country. This diversity has transformed the event into a meeting point and exchange hub for different ways of understanding and experiencing popular culture.

The initiative arose from the large number of giant puppet groups in Mataró. To mark its twentieth anniversary, the Iluro Giant Puppet Group wanted to create a celebration unlike any other and produced a show focused exclusively on dances. Since then, the event has become a highlight of the city's cultural calendar.

The activity allows us to appreciate the work of the groups, the bearers, the musicians and all the people who keep this tradition alive.
