European Heritage Days in Subirats

Subirats once again joins the European Heritage Days (EHD), the continent's most prominent cultural celebration that opens the doors to unique spaces and invites visitors to discover the richness of the municipality.

Subirats participates in a new edition of the European Heritage Days with a proposal dedicated to recovering the memory of the old washhouses and highlighting the role that these spaces played in the daily life of the villages.

The event will invite the public to rediscover the communal washhouses not only as architectural or functional elements, but also as spaces for interaction, conversation, and the transmission of stories. For many years, they were part of the daily lives of many women, who came to do their laundry and share an important part of the village's social life.

The proposal will combine readings, songs, objects, dance, and improvisation—resources that will allow participants to approach heritage from a participatory and emotional perspective. The activity aims to breathe new life into memories linked to these places and show how everyday tasks also form part of history and intangible heritage.

The activity is free and open to everyone, but prior registration is required. It's a great opportunity to visit Subirats, discover a less visible part of its history, and understand how even the most ordinary spaces can preserve the memory of a region.

The European Heritage Days, promoted by the Council of Europe and the European Commission, are celebrated every autumn simultaneously in more than fifty countries, establishing themselves as the most important participatory cultural movement in Europe. In Catalonia, this initiative has been running for over thirty years and mobilizes hundreds of municipalities and organizations, which year after year offer free activities to make culture accessible and highlight the importance of heritage as an element of identity and social cohesion.
