Guided tour of the artistic treasure of the Dolores Ensemble of the Basilica of Santa Maria de Mataró, a work by the painter Antoni Viladomat.

The Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows in the Basilica of Santa Maria de Mataró is one of the most important examples of Catalan Baroque art. Begun before the War of the Spanish Succession and completed two decades later, it houses an exceptional collection of paintings created in the workshop of Antoni Viladomat i Manalt (1678-1755), recognized as the most outstanding Catalan painter of the first half of the 18th century.

The visit offers the opportunity to explore the chapel, the sacristy, the crypt, the heart of the church, and the meeting room. New for the first quarter of 2026, pre-arranged groups can add a climb to the bell tower to their visit of the Baroque complex, guided by the Santa Maria bell ringers.

This complex immerses us in the mindset and religiosity characteristic of the Counter-Reformation. The meeting room, considered the Sistine Chapel of Mataró, is a paradigmatic example of a striking yet sober and balanced Baroque style.

• Visit duration: 1 hour and 15 minutes.
• It is essential to make a reservation in advance by emailing [email protected].
• Limited capacity and advance payment of €10 per person via bank transfer. Free entry for children under 12.
• We also organize guided tours for groups (maximum 25 people) on mutually agreed dates. Price: €70 per group.
• Visits are also offered for school groups. Specific materials have been prepared for prior classroom use (text commentary, viewing of a documentary, and analysis of a painting from the complex using visual thinking strategies), which are sent to schools that book the visit.
• Cost: €2 per student (educational centers in Mataró) / €60 (educational centers outside of Mataró).
