Urgell
Urgell is an inland region located on the Lleida plain, very accessible and well communicated that makes all its cultural and landscape values available to the visitor in an environment that preserves its genuineness. Away from the noise of the tourist centers par excellence, Urgell provides increasingly valued values for those who seek shelter, calm, the enjoyment of villages and authentic landscapes. Despite the apparent uniformity of the landscape, some physically very different sectors can be distinguished: the Corb river valley, the Ondara river basin, the Sió riverbank and the Urgell plain sector. Each of them, with its own character, provides unique landscape features that we invite you to discover.
The capital of Urgell is exercised by Tàrrega, which together with Agramunt and Bellpuig bring together a good part of the economic and cultural activity. They are nuclei with an area of influence that extends beyond the regional limits due to their offer of commerce and services and their dynamism.
History has left a strong mark with such important architectural jewels as the Cistercian monastery of Vallbona de les Monges or the Romanesque church of Santa Maria de Agramunt. These cultural assets have been strengthened with the creation of numerous museum facilities, the celebration of fairs and popular festivals, or the crafts that are deeply rooted in the region.
All the municipalities of the Urgell region, together with those of the Alt Camp and Conca de Barberà regions form the Cistercian Route, with special emphasis on the Cistercian monasteries of Vallbona de les Monges, Santes Creus and Poblet. Signposted routes on foot or by bike are a good way to discover all the charm of nature at any time of the year.
The Urgell region is located in the middle of the Ponent lands, in the Central Catalan Depression and at an average altitude of 350 metres. It comprises 20 municipalities, 3 decentralized municipal entities and 20 added towns, with an area of 586.91 km² and a total of 37,676 inhabitants (January 2018). El Urgell is a flat land sloping to the west where the plains stand out, which are staggered from east to west and the hills shaped by the rivers and streams. The rivers that cross the region are the Corb, the Sió and the Ondara. The continental Mediterranean climate shows strong contrasts between winter and summer. The Urgell Canal is responsible for bringing water to all the irrigated lands and it is believed that the construction of the Segarra-Garrigues Canal can soon bring water to the rest of the lands in the region that need it.

Climate
The region is characterized by a continental Mediterranean climate of contrasts and significant thermal amplitudes and by a low level of rainfall throughout the year. The winters are cold and the summers dry and hot.
The average temperature in the two coldest winter months, December and January, is very low and contrasts with the increasingly hot summers. Only in the months of April, May and October do they have an average temperature that can be classified as mild.
In the small mountainous area in the southeast, temperatures are somewhat cooler in summer and the drought is slightly less pronounced.

Gastronomy
The cuisine of Urgell is a kind of everyday art, ephemeral and at the same time eternal, placed on the table. A good reason to visit the region and taste one of the many dishes offered by the restaurants and inns in the area. You can taste from a mixed pot of Urgell, a casserole of pig feet with snails, a chicken at the helm or a dessert as delicious as nougat and stone chocolate, ears or a musician 's dessert.
The culinary legacy that has been inherited from our grandmothers and the natural pantry that the land provides us is a priceless privilege. Gastronomy and local products have acquired an important role in the region, with fairs and festivals as popular as the Firacóc de Tàrrega (May), the Nougat and Chocolate Fair at the Piedra de Agramunt (October), the Festival the Verdú Harvest and Wine Festival (October), the Belianes Oil Festival (December), the Agramunt Wine and Cava Show (May) or the Vilagrassa Almond Fair (September).
