La Fuliola

La Fuliola is located in the northeast of the Urgell region, at an altitude of 272 m between Tàrrega and Balaguer, at the foot of the C-53 road that connects both towns. It limits with the terms of Agramunt, Tornabous, Castellserà and with that of Ivars d'Urgell in the Pla d'Urgell.

It is located in the Urgell area where the plain is uniform. It belonged to the monastery of Poblet. The primitive nucleus was closed and surrounded by walls.
In the 16th century there were already constructions outside the wall, in the so-called Raval. Urban growth, at the foot of the road, has been maintained since the second half of the 19th century, when the arrival of the Urgell canal gave the town a great economic and demographic boost.

La Fuliola has become in recent years one of the most visited places in the region, as it recalls that tradition of harvesting with the scythe and the raid on the threshing floor, in fact there is a mural dedicated to this tradition. La Fuliola is the head of the municipality with 982 inhabitants.

The municipal term includes the Boldú aggregate. Agriculture is the basis of the economy of the area. The Urgell canal, built between 1852 and 1862, transformed dry lands into large irrigated areas that generate an organized and modern production of corn, wheat, alfalfa and fruit trees. The fodder industries and the cold stores for fruit are a complement to its activity.

The life of this place, governed by agriculture, does not exclude a strong respect for the vestiges of the past and a special care to maintain and promote popular festivals. In the town there is a soccer field, swimming pools and a sports center.
