Roses, the central theme of the Sant Feliu de Llobregat Spring Festival!

On May 8, 9, and 10, Sant Feliu de Llobregat will be decked out in its finest to celebrate the Spring Festival. Once again, the Trade and Industry Fair, the National Rose Exhibition, and the Employment and Training Fair will be the main attractions of a festive program featuring themed areas spread throughout various streets and venues in the capital of the Baix Llobregat region.

The 68th National Rose Exhibition will take over the Palau Falguera, filling it with roses, ornamental flowers, ikebana arrangements, and bonsai trees. The Baix Llobregat Trade and Industry Fair, now in its 47th edition, is the highlight for promoting the local economy within the framework of the festivities. Furthermore, the Casal de Joves (Youth Center) will become the hub of Girafeina, the Employment and Training Fair, which is being held in the city for the third consecutive year with the support of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce. This well-established initiative returns with the aim of expanding and strengthening its reach.

It will be three days full of activities designed for all audiences, with varied proposals so that everyone can enjoy an excellent Spring Festival.

The National Rose Exhibition, the heart of the festivities

The National Rose Exhibition, founded by the Sant Feliu rose enthusiast Pere Dot in 1927, is one of Sant Feliu's oldest, most deeply rooted, and most unique traditions. It is one of the most important cultural events of the year and one of the city's most representative. The exhibition is held at the Palau Falguera, where each year visitors can admire and smell more than 10,000 roses, including greenhouse roses, garden roses, and rosebushes in bloom, representing nearly 300 different varieties. As is customary, roses from various parts of Catalonia, Spain, Europe, and other countries around the world are on display.

As part of the Exhibition, various competitions dedicated to roses are held, with the participation of both professionals and amateurs, with the aim of beautifying the exhibition spaces. These include contests for the best rose, miniature roses, the most fragrant rose, and polyantha roses, as well as a children's rose competition for boys and girls up to 14 years old, and the Golden Rose photography competition.

The roses participating in these competitions can be viewed throughout the weekend in a tent located within the Palau Falguera grounds. A jury made up of expert growers and rose specialists will be responsible for deciding the winners of the various prizes. In addition, the program also includes other participatory activities open to the public, such as a bobbin lace competition and a rose-themed treasure hunt.

On the other hand, during the Spring Festival, anyone who wishes can visit the Dot and Camprubí Rose Garden, located in the Les Grases neighborhood. This space boasts a collection of 420 rose varieties, all properly identified and accompanied by explanatory information about the different sections and collections. During the days of the Exhibition, the roses are at their peak bloom, making it a particularly worthwhile visit.

As every year, roses will also decorate some of Sant Feliu's most emblematic facades, which will be adorned for the occasion.

The rose, also present in gastronomy

Another highlight of these festivities is a new edition of the Rose Cuisine, a gastronomic event that places this flower at the heart of various culinary creations. The initiative is organized by the Friends of the Roses, in collaboration with the Sant Feliu de Llobregat City Council.
