Sant Jordi in Suria
Súria is filled with culture and activities to celebrate Sant Jordi!
There will be recreational and cultural activities, book stalls and roses in the street and presentations of books.
For Sant Jordi, books and roses are usually given as a sign of love and friendship. Súria is filled with book and flower stands, on a very lively and festive day.
The celebration of Sant Jordi dates back to the Middle Ages and is associated with the legend of Sant Jordi and the dragon. According to legend, a terrible dragon terrorized a town in Catalonia, and the only way to appease it was by offering a person from the town as a sacrifice every day.
One day, the king's daughter was chosen as a sacrifice, but Sant Jordi, a brave knight, saved her from the dragon and killed the beast. A rose bush sprouted from the spilled blood of the dragon, and Sant Jordi gave the princess a red rose as a symbol of his love.
