Gavà Asparagus Fair
The Gavà Asparagus Fair originated on May 22, 1932, when it was first held as an Asparagus Competition and Exhibition. It was created by local farmers to promote a local product, grown exclusively in the fields of Les Arenas de Gavà.
Over time, the Fira has adapted to changing times and the needs of both the agricultural sector and its visitors. The municipality's economic transformation is also reflected in the fairgrounds, which extend across several areas, including Plaça de Jaume Balmes, Carrer de Sant Pere, Carrer de Martí l'Humà, and the Jacme March pavilion, where the Agricultural Exhibition takes place.
Despite maintaining its agricultural essence —with characteristic elements such as artistic baskets made with local produce and bundles of asparagus —the Fira has incorporated new areas such as commerce and gastronomy. In this regard, GastroGavà, the Fira's gastronomic space, offers culinary creations from local restaurateurs, with asparagus as the star ingredient.
Year after year, the Fira continues to evolve to incorporate new and attractive proposals, designed for an increasingly wider and more diverse audience.
The Asparagus Fair is organized by the Gavà City Council, with the collaboration of the Gavà Agricultural Cooperative in the agricultural field and the Gavà Restaurant Guild in the gastronomic aspect.
