Transhumance Fair of Santa Margarida i els Monjos

The Transhumance Fair is held in October in Santa Margarida i els Monjos and brings together producers and artisans of products related to livestock and wine tourism.

During the morning, visitors will find a market with tastings of wines, cavas, cheeses, and cured meats, as well as craft stalls and antique dealers. There will also be a display of sheep from local shepherds and goats linked to the Camins de Vida project, bringing the world of livestock farming closer to the public in a direct and interactive way.

Traditional trades will play a prominent role with a traditional milking demonstration and a fresh cheese-making demonstration, while families can enjoy giant games, children's activities and a treasure hunt.

Popular culture will round out the day with a parade linked to the Ball de Pastoretes dels Monjos, which will be celebrating its fifteenth anniversary, followed by a dance performance. There will also be a children's puppet show and the presentation of a new character related to pastoral imagery.

The program will also include a meeting of shepherds and shepherdesses and a concert to close the morning.

An ideal fair to discover up close transhumance, livestock, crafts and local products, keeping alive the link between landscape, traditions and the rural world.

The fair is part of the project "Marina Livestock Trail. From Cerdanya to Penedès", which arose from the concern of the municipalities of Santa Margarida i els Monjos, Lluçà and Llívia, among other organizations and entities, with the aim of preserving, enhancing and promoting transhumance and livestock trails in Catalonia, dedicated to flocks between the Pyrenees and the coast in the Penedès and the Garraf, since the Middle Ages.
