Subirats
Price: 5€

The Subirats Tourist Office offers a pleasant guided tour to enjoy the art of dry stonework in Subirats.

The walk will be led by the Subirats Study Center, which, through members of the Dry Stone section , will explain the knowledge and techniques of this art, with numerous witnesses in the municipality.

The walk will cover different sections of Subirats' forests and vineyards , peach and olive groves , forest trails, and paths with panoramic views of Sant Pau and Lavern. This will allow participants to see the richness and variety of dry stone constructions in the municipality: banks, huts, cabins , and other traditional elements that make up the agricultural landscape of Subirats. These structures, made with no other material than stone and the lacework technique, have been essential over the centuries for supporting crops, delimiting properties, and creating shelter and storage spaces.

The hike is supported by the Albet i Noya winery , a leader in landscape preservation and winemaking heritage. The winery, based in Subirats (Sant Pau d'Ordal), has been committed to respectful vineyard management since its inception, including the conservation and restoration of dry-stone margins and huts as a fundamental part of the agricultural ecosystem .

This commitment to the land translates into a clear desire to maintain and revitalize the traditional structures that have accompanied generations of winegrowers. Dry stone not only has heritage and cultural value, but also plays a key role in the sustainability of the vineyard , helping to prevent erosion, promote biodiversity, and integrate cultivation in harmony with the natural environment.

Dry Stone art has been declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO since 2018. This recognition is of great importance in Subirats due to the work that has been carried out for years to enhance this heritage.
