The grandalla, the national flower of Andorra
In Andorra, one of the most beloved symbols comes from nature itself. It is the grandalla, a delicate white flower that covers the high mountain meadows every spring and has become the national flower of the Principality of Andorra.
Its arrival heralds the end of winter and the awakening of the Pyrenean landscapes, becoming one of the first signs that the mountain is once again filled with life.
The flower that blooms again after the cold
The grandalla, scientifically known as Narcissus poeticus or poet's daffodil, blooms for only a few weeks each year. With its six white petals and a small yellow crown edged in red, it appears to be a simple flower. But anyone who has strolled through the meadows of Andorra in spring knows that its fragrance and beauty make it unmistakable.
For months it remains hidden underground, protected by its bulb, waiting for the snow to melt. When the first warm days arrive, it silently emerges and transforms the meadows into a landscape dotted with small white flowers.
The flower of poets
It is no coincidence that it is also called the poets' narcissus. Over the years, numerous Andorran writers and poets have dedicated verses and stories to it, making it a symbol of ephemeral beauty, purity, and the bond between people and the mountains.
Its intense perfume and brief appearance have inspired generations of artists who have seen the image of a nature as delicate as it is resilient.

A symbol of Andorra
Among the more than a thousand species of flora that grow in the Principality, the grandalla is the one that best represents the country. It stands out not for its size or striking colors, but for its understated elegance and its faithfulness to the cycle of the seasons.
Every spring it returns punctually, reminding us that, after the longest winters, nature always returns. This ability to withstand the cold and bloom again is one of the reasons why Andorra adopted it as its national flower.
A treasure to be preserved
The grandalla continues to grow in the meadows and on the slopes of the Andorran Pyrenees, but it is a fragile flower. Therefore, it is recommended to admire it without harvesting it, so that it can complete its natural cycle and continue to paint the mountains white year after year.
Its story is written every spring, when the snow disappears and the meadows of Andorra are once again filled with these small white flowers that, for generations, have symbolized the beauty, nature and soul of the country.
