Guided tours of the Cresta del Masnou mine
El Masnou offers an exceptional opportunity to discover its underground hydraulic heritage with guided tours of the Cresta mine, an activity organized within the framework of the Open Day at the El Masnou Washhouses.
The proposed tour will allow access to a section of the mine that is not usually accessible or open to the public. The route, approximately 70 meters long and lasting about 30 minutes, will begin at the entrance on Fontanills Street, at the corner of Pintor Villà Street, and will end at the main distribution point. Groups will be very small, with only five participants per tour.
The Cresta mine is one of the few water mines still in operation in El Masnou. Documented since 1845, it has an extensive network of galleries, inspection wells, and distribution channels that allowed water to be conveyed and distributed to the homes and washhouses of the owning families.
The tour will be led by technical staff specializing in speleology, who will be responsible for both the guidance and safety measures. The experience will involve exploring a narrow, low-ceilinged gallery excavated in the rock face and lined with brick, with no artificial lighting and very high humidity.
This activity is for people aged 16 to 60 and is not suitable for those with mobility issues, respiratory problems, or claustrophobia. Approved helmets with lights will be provided, and participants should wear non-slip footwear, preferably waterproof, and appropriate clothing.
Participation requires prior booking and acceptance of safety regulations. A unique experience to literally delve into the history of water in El Masnou.
We're waiting for you!
