Talk: Recovering local varieties and cultivated biodiversity - Ordis
Ordis will host a talk on Friday, November 20, 2026, dedicated to local varieties and cultivated biodiversity, a proposal to delve deeper into the value of traditional seeds and the importance of preserving the agricultural heritage of Empordà.
Under the title "Llavors de l'Empordà. El nostre patrimoni agricultura", the activity will take place at 8pm in the Santa Caterina Cultural Center, located at Calle de la Tria, 7. The session will be led by Albert Campsolinas, from L'Espigall.
The talk will focus on the recovery of local varieties, those that have been selected and cultivated in a specific territory for generations and that form part of both its agriculture and its food culture. Beans, fruits, vegetables, and other traditional crops are also an example of the diversity that has been built up over time thanks to the knowledge of farmers.
The proposal invites reflection on the importance of preserving this diversity in the face of the progressive standardization of crops and to discover why local varieties can play a relevant role in the future of agriculture.
Beyond their productive value, these seeds also tell stories, reveal ways of working the land and a particular relationship with the landscape. Conserving them, therefore, means protecting a part of the agricultural and cultural heritage of the Empordà region.
The activity is organized by the Ordis Popular Athenaeum and is aimed at all people interested in agriculture, biodiversity, food and territory.
