International Shepherd Dog Competition of Castellar de n'Hug

The International Sheepdog Competition in this small mountain town in Berguedà was born in 1962 from the gatherings of a group of local shepherds who competed to prove who had the best sheepdog. This tradition has endured over the years, becoming an emblematic event that attracts visitors from all over Catalonia and beyond.

Since then, the competition has been held annually on the last Sunday of August, forming part of the Catalan Countries Sheepdog Trials Championship. At 11 a.m. in El Prat del Castell, shepherds from all over gather to demonstrate their dogs' skills in a festive and competitive atmosphere. It's a unique opportunity to see sheepdogs of various breeds in action, trained to work with livestock.

The competition is divided into two rounds. In the first round, all registered shepherds participate, and the dogs' general skills are assessed. In the second round, only the top-ranked dogs from the first round have the opportunity to compete for the final victory. This structure allows both participants and spectators to enjoy a dynamic and exciting spectacle.
