Jardins Artigas La Pobla de Lillet
La Pobla de Lillet is located in the northeastern part of Berguedà at an altitude of 843 m, in a leafy valley at the foot of the Catllaràs mountain range.
The Romanesque Old Bridge, from the 14th century, majestically welcomes the old town, revealing part of the past and its long history, a walk through narrow cobbled streets, small squares and passages under houses that lead to beautiful corners. Within this framework, the Parish Church, from 1784, houses Christ in Majesty, a magnificent Romanesque polychrome wood carving from the 12th century, and the sculpture of the Assumption of the Virgin by Frederic Marès.
The railway with the narrowest gauge in the entire state in its time, has been converted for tourism and crosses the municipality from the old coal loader to the cement factory, today a museum, an industrial complex of great interest.
Along the way are the Artigas Gardens, designed at the beginning of the 20th century by the architect Antoni Gaudí. The architect had come to Pobla de Lillet to design the Chalet del Catllaràs where the engineers of the coal mines located in the same mountain range would stay and which would be used to supply the furnaces of the Asland Cement factory that El Clot was being built. del Moro, founded by Eusebi Güell and Bacigalupi.
During his stay in La Pobla de Lillet, Gaudí stayed at the Artigas ' house and in gratitude for the hospitality received, he designed gardens for the family just behind their factory: The Artigas Gardens.
In this small corner sheltered by the Llobregat river, water is the protagonist and magic is present in every corner.
Here, from the imposing rock cut of the Glorieta, you can see this entire garden that successfully fuses nature and architecture.
On the outskirts, the Monastery of Santa María, an architectural complex with remains from different construction periods, stands out for its beautiful Romanesque cloister and the north Gothic door. Nearby, the Rotonda de San Miguel is one of the few examples of a church with a circular floor plan that we find in Catalonia.
The Sierra del Catllaràs, has a precious natural heritage to discover: sumptuous viewpoints, crystal clear springs and an extensive network of paths that invite you to enter these places of exceptional beauty. Here is the Falgars Sanctuary, home of our Virgin, a beautiful Gothic alabaster carving.
In the middle of the forests of the mountains is the Chalet del Catllaràs, designed by the architect Antoni Gaudí in 1902.
Our valley welcomes the visitor offering everything it treasures: gastronomy, culture, history, crafts and nature, discover it!
The Artigas Gardens offer an educational service and workshops, as well as guided tours.
