Ripoll 40 Hours Fair XLIII
The Ripoll 40 Hours Fair, now in its 43rd year, is one of the town's most emblematic events, combining tradition, history, and contemporary dynamism in a single celebration. This fair has its origins in ancient religious practices, when the population, scattered across farmhouses, received permission from the king and lord to be absent for forty hours to worship the Blessed Sacrament in a specific church. This period also became an occasion for social gatherings, festivities, and a market, held a week before Palm Sunday in preparation for Easter.
Over time, the fair has maintained its spirit as a meeting point and a hub of social cohesion, also incorporating a deeply rooted festive and social component. In the past, it was even an opportunity for the town's young people to meet and find partners, making the fair a key space in Ripoll's social life.
Today, the 40 Hours Fair has adapted to the times without losing its essence. For three days, from March 20 to 22, 2026, Ripoll transforms into a large open-air fairground, with spaces spread throughout the town hosting craft and food stalls, food truck areas, spaces for local organizations, workshops, family activities, and a prominent automotive exhibition.
One of the main attractions is Ripoll Antic, the antiques and collectibles market, which coexists with innovative offerings and activities for all ages. The program includes parades, shows, children's workshops, live music, DJ sets, and performances such as the Diablos de Ripoll (Devils of Ripoll ), as well as unique initiatives like the hot air balloon ride and the traditional game of La Mona. All of this creates a festive and participatory atmosphere that fills the streets with life.
