Osona is a region located in the interior of Catalonia, in the heart of the Vic plain , and is characterized by its cultural wealth, its historical heritage and the beauty of its natural landscapes. The combination of charming villages, mountains and green valleys make Osona an ideal place for those who want to enjoy nature and history.
The capital of the region, Vic, is a city with a rich medieval legacy. Its historic centre is known for the Plaza Mayor, a large arcaded square that hosts one of the oldest and most famous markets in Catalonia. Vic is also famous for its Cathedral of Saint Peter, which combines several architectural styles, from Romanesque to Neoclassical, and for its museums, such as the Episcopal Museum, which houses an important collection of medieval art.
Osona is also a land of castles and monasteries, with highlights such as the Monastery of San Pedro de Casserres, located in a spectacular spot on a bend in the River Ter, or the Castle of Montesquiu, surrounded by a natural park. These spaces offer a combination of historical heritage and natural landscape , ideal for excursions and cultural routes.
The natural landscape of Osona is diverse and ideal for nature and adventure lovers. The region has natural spaces such as the Cingles de Tavertet and Montseny, the latter declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO. These areas are perfect for hiking, cycling and other outdoor activities, with stunning views and paths surrounded by forests and mountains.
Osona is also known for its gastronomy, especially for its artisanal sausages such as Vic salchichón, renowned everywhere for its quality. In addition, its restaurants offer traditional Catalan dishes made with local products, such as pork and beef, mushrooms and cheeses.
