Vilamacolum
Vilamacolum is a municipality in the Alt Empordà region located on the left bank of the Fluvià River. Its territory is flat, with cereal crops, corn, fodder for livestock with fruit trees (apple trees) and livestock.
The town of Vilamacolum is 5 meters above sea level, and forms a very extensive nucleus, without a well-defined urbanism, the houses are extended by streets and roads, with empty spaces in between.
Vilamacolum is surrounded by the municipal districts of Riumors, Castelló d'Empúries, Sant Pere Pescador and Torroella de Fluvià.
The most interesting places of interest are:
- The Church of Santa María: Its small church has a single nave and a semicircular apse; presents the Romanesque structure of the eleventh to thirteenth centuries. The oldest parts are the apse and a small eastern part of the nave. The walls of the rest of the nave correspond to a later period, were quite restored together with the side chapels during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
