The Tallada d'Empordà

The Tallada d'Empordà was a fortified town of which important remains are preserved. It is worth highlighting six towers and numerous sections of the walls that joined them. To the east, the church is part of the fortification. It is dedicated to Santa María and it is of a nave with a semicircular apse, in whose top a tower with loopholes was raised that served as the angular end of the wall. The original building is Romanesque; but the fortification is from the s. XVI, as a part of the walled enclosure. AI s. XVIII were added two lateral chapels, one on each side and the sacristy on the north side.

Marenyà

Marenyà is formed by a group of houses that are located disorderly around the parish church dedicated to San Esteban. It is documented since s. XIII and is of a nave with a semicircular apse. The construction was carried out in different periods of the Romanesque and, later, it was fortified in the s. XV-XVI. In the interior it preserves part of the mural decoration of the Romanesque period. The current roof presents the eaves painted. Near the church is the Pedró, formed by an altar with a wrought iron cross on top.

Tor

From here we can visit the church of San Clemente, the most outstanding element of the Tor core .

Albons

The nucleus of Albons conserves the medieval structure and makes all the streets rise towards the upper part, which is occupied by the church of Sant Cugat.

Bellcaire d'Empordà

The town of Bellcaire d'Empordà is located on a hill overlooking the plain and close to the Montgrí massif. In the upper part, the castle palace (1303) was the usual residence of the counts of Empúries s. XIII-XIV. It is a square building with a small central patio and the chapel of Santa María. Currently, there is the church and the Town Hall. Around, under the protection of the old site, we can see beautiful centers with Renaissance facades. Descending to the north of the palace castle, we find the small church of San Juan. Of pre-Romanesque style and modified during the Romanesque, it was the old parish church until a few centuries ago.

virgins

The village of Verges is located near the left bank of the river Ter. The old town is located on the highest part of a small hill, surrounded by walls. Important remains of the fortified enclosure are conserved: sections of walls, several square towers of the s. XIII-XIV and one of circular of a later time. Of the old castle, located inside the enclosure, there are few vestiges and currently houses the villa's house. The parish church of San Julián de Verges is, in part, a Romanesque construction of the s. XII-XIII, remodeled later and where a high-rise belfry was added. Through the medieval streets of the village the famous procession of Verges is celebrated.
