Cathar Fair and Festival of Gósol

Every last weekend of July, Gósol goes back in time to remember the Cathar spirit with a celebration that fills its streets with music, crafts, workshops, shows and medieval mysteries.

The Cathar Fair transforms the town into a unique setting, where young and old can enjoy workshops on ancient crafts, family treasure hunts, sculpture and pottery demonstrations, guided tours, theatrical performances and even a nighttime torchlit climb to the Castle, an icon of Gósol's medieval past.

A legacy between history and myth

Between the 13th and 14th centuries, after the crusade against the Cathars in southern France, many of them—considered heretics by the Church—sought refuge in the Catalan Pyrenees. According to legend, some crossed the Pas dels Gosolans to reach Gósol, leaving a spiritual mark in places like the Font de les Bones Dones, a magical place linked to the beliefs and resistance of those fleeing persecution.

Today, Gósol pays tribute to this half-historical, half-legendary memory with a festival steeped in essence, culture, and identity.
