Centre d'interpretació Dinosaures Fumanya Cercs
Fumanya is the largest European site of sauropod footprints from the Upper Cretaceous and one of the most important worldwide.
Integrated into this impressive site of more than 3,500 footprints, is the Fumanya Dinosaurs Interpretation Center: a center dedicated to the discovery and study of the footprints, habitat and biological aspects of these dinosaurs (the visitor can see bone fossils, dinosaur egg and skin, and other species) and to their extinction 65 million years ago.
In addition, a part of the exhibition is dedicated to the open-air mining activity that led to the appearance of the traces and that would transform the landscape of Fumanya between 1975 and 1986. As well as reviews the geological characteristics of the area, strongly conditioned by the alpine orogeny that one day verticalized the great river plains that defined the landscape millions of years ago.
At the Fumanya Dinosaurs Interpretation Center, both the visitor and a school group will be able to discover the extraordinary relationship between geology, mining and paleontology: between the Pyrenees, dinosaurs and coal.
A link that can continue or begin with a visit to the extension of the Interpretation Center, the Cercs Mines Museum.
