The Major Festival of Gracia

The neighbourhood works for months to decorate every corner with surprising themes, turning the streets into authentic ephemeral works of art. Over the years, the festival has evolved. During the 20th century, Vila de Gràcia became "the queen of the envelats", with large open-air dance halls where renowned artists such as Antonio Machín, Raphael and Joan Manuel Serrat performed. Although these envelats disappeared in the 1970s, the festival was able to reinvent itself and maintain its position as a benchmark of Catalan popular culture.

Today, the Gràcia Festival is synonymous with inclusion, sustainability and community work. The reuse of materials for decorations, the fight against any form of discrimination and the involvement of the neighbourhood make this celebration much more than a party: it is a symbol of identity and social cohesion.
