The Major Festival of Sant Bartomeu in Sitges
Discover the Sant Bartomeu Festival in Sitges, one of the most beloved celebrations on the Catalan coast, which every year on 23 and 24 August fills the town of Sitges with tradition, music and fire shows. This festival, documented for centuries, honours the town's patron saint with events that combine devotion and popular culture, making it an unmissable event this summer.
The festival begins with the proclamation and the presentation of the Sant Bartomeu flag, giving way to days full of activity. On the 23rd, the vigil, Sitges wakes up with the entry of grallas, the ringing of bells and the sardanas in the square. The streets are filled with traditional dances such as the moixiganga, the giants or the baton makers, who tour the town with energy and colour until night, when the fire castle lights up the beach and gives way to the street party.
The big day, August 24, begins with the morning procession, where dances and interludes accompany the Sitges residents with floral offerings. Afterwards, the official entrance takes the authorities and the festival committee to the parish to celebrate the solemn mass in honor of Sant Bartomeu. At the end, the streets are filled with music and dances again, with performances by the Colla Jove de Castellers de Sitges and the dances that make their way in front of the Town Hall.
In the afternoon, the religious procession goes through the town with the tabernacle of the saint, accompanied by all the dances and groups of fire, which make a spectacular final lighting. When the procession returns to the church, the giants, the eagle and the dragon bid farewell to the festival with their last dances, thus closing two days of culture and brotherhood.
Today, the Sant Bartomeu Festival in Sitges is much more than a tradition: it is a symbol of local identity and pride, where every street, every dance and every human castle tells a story of roots and passion.
Come and live a unique experience where party, fire and music come together to create unforgettable moments.
