Mostra Igualada
The Igualada Festival is the leading performing arts fair for all audiences in Catalonia. It is a major meeting point where the most outstanding shows for children and young people are presented. Each year it brings together around 30,000 spectators and more than a thousand industry professionals in Igualada, the capital of the Anoia region.
A strategic market for the sector
Since 2013, the Igualada Festival has been considered a strategic market for Catalonia. It is a space designed to facilitate contact, exchange, and cooperation between companies, programmers, and other agents in the family performing arts.
The fair aims to be a platform for showcasing and promoting children's and youth shows, with the goal of enriching the programming of municipalities and festivals throughout Catalonia and the State, while also boosting the international presence of Catalan companies.
More than three decades of experience
With over 30 years of history, the Mostra has its origins in civil society. The first edition was held in Igualada in 1990, promoted by the Rialles Movement of Catalonia, linked to Òmnium Cultural. This organization, founded in Terrassa in 1972, had the mission of creating local volunteer groups to organize children's and youth shows in their municipalities.
Except for the 1991 and 1992 editions, which took place in Terrassa and Sabadell, the rest have been held in Igualada.
In 1995, about fifty volunteer groups from all over the country formed the Red Foundation, which a year later would become the main organizer of the Igualada Film Festival.
At the same time, since 1996, Rialles continued to promote another Mostra in Cerdanyola del Vallès (with the exception of 2005, which was held in Sabadell).
In 2006, at the initiative of the Catalan Institute of Cultural Industries (ICIC), with the support of the Igualada City Council and the commitment of the Xarxa Foundation and the Rialles Group, the two children's and youth theatre fairs, the one in Igualada and the one in Cerdanyola del Vallès, were unified, giving rise to the current one.
