The Phylloxera Festival in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia is one of the town's most unique celebrations, commemorating how, at the end of the 19th century, the residents of Sant Sadurní managed to overcome the phylloxera plague that had devastated the town's vineyards. Fire and music are the main attractions of this festival, which combines tradition, folk culture, and spectacle.
On the night of September 7, the "Escampada de Fil·loxeretes" parades through the streets of Sant Sadurní until it meets Filoxera.
The following day, September 8th, peasants, "Fil·loxeres," "Fil·loxeretes," and the Seven Sages of Greece descend to the Church Square, where the story and victory over the plague are reenacted. The triumph culminates with the lighting of a green fire, the traditional sprinkling of cava, and a grand celebration with music and dancing.
