Procession of the Armed in Vic

The Procession of the Armed of Vic, also known as the Penitence Procession, is a tradition that dates back to 1750. Organized by the Venerable Congregation of the Mare de Déu dels Dolors, this procession takes place every Palm Sunday at 9:00 p.m. through the streets of the old town.

The procession is composed of two armed groups, long lines of congregants with vestments and axes, bearers of insults, sibyls and words, bearers of the Holy Christ and the Virgin, three choirs of singers, and a retinue of devotees. In total, more than 500 people participate annually in this manifestation of popular piety.

During the procession, the streets are filled with a solemn silence, interrupted only by the echo of the spears, as well as by the songs performed by the participating choirs.
