The Xarelada in Cunit

Cunit celebrates La Xarel·lada, the only Xarel·lo Festival by the sea. This year a new edition is celebrated. In this space, a meeting of Xarel lo wines will be offered, accompanied by a wide variety of tapas prepared by the restaurateurs and pastry chefs of the municipality.

From Cunit we want to give the importance that this variety deserves by organizing an activity around xarel lo with various presentations by professionals in the field to learn more about the main characteristics and identifying factors of this product.

This initiative was born in 2013 by the Cunit sommelier Carme Garcia together with the Councilor for Tourism and Heritage of the Cunit City Council with the main objective of creating a space to recognize Penedès wine and particularly Xarel lo. The location of the tasting and the xarel·los sample will be on the Paseo Marítimo, between Les Sorres and Amílcar Barca streets.

Xarel·lo is the most cultivated grape variety in the DO Penedès with an area that exceeds 7,000 ha and enjoys an excellent adaptation to the terroirs and climates of the Penedès. The young wines are smooth, with a silky but full-bodied character, good acidity, fruity, aromatic and with an excellent alcohol content. The oldest Xarel·lo wines are consistent, warm, long, with a mineral finish.
