Aplec de Sant Elies in Sant Pere de Vilamajor

Every April 25, the people of Vilamajor go up to the Sant Elies hermitage to ask for rain.

A centuries-old tradition that includes a walk to the top of the Sant Elies hill, a mass in the hermitage, a popular meal and spending a day on the esplanade enjoying the views of the Montseny Biosphere Reserve.

The legend of this tradition is that at the beginning of the 15th century the inhabitants of the Tordera region suffered a serious plague epidemic along with a notable drought.

They went to ask advice from Father Abbot of Santa Fe, who told them that they were suffering a divine punishment and that the only solution was to ask for forgiveness and make a promise that, if it rained and the plague disappeared, they would build a hermitage on top of a hill and They would name it after Sant Elies, bringer of rain. The wishes of the population were fulfilled and work began.
