Cellers de Scala Dei embodies the living history of wine in Priorat. As the oldest operating winery in the region and the first to bottle at the source, it is the direct heir to the winemaking tradition begun by the Carthusian monks in the 12th century, becoming the spiritual, toponymic, and viticultural origin of the region. This centuries-old legacy remains alive in every plot and every corner that forms the soul of this iconic winery.
Their vineyards, once cultivated by monks, are located on the slopes of the Montsant mountain range at altitudes between 500 and 800 meters, combining the legendary slate with clay and limestone soils. This exceptional environment, marked by a unique microclimate and a landscape of breathtaking beauty, allows Garnacha to express itself in its most elegant, profound, and refined form. Today, the winery continues to produce its wines preserving ancestral techniques—such as vinification in cement vats and aging in foudres and large wooden tanks— and aging them in the old 17th-century cellar, a living testament to a philosophy that respects the purity of the fruit and the character of each estate. This purity and authenticity have earned the winery a solid international reputation, placing its bottles among the most sought-after by sommeliers, critics, and wine enthusiasts worldwide.
