With about two thousand and three hundred inhabitants, Camprodon is the municipality with the greatest extension of the entire Valley, 103 Km2, and the second one of the demarcation of Girona. The Vila de Camprodon includes the Colonia Estabanell, the neighborhood of Cavallera, the manor houses of Marienr, Sitjar and Resclusanys, the neighborhood of Freixenet, the urbanization of Font Rubí, and already within the Alta Garrotxa the towns of Rocabruna, Beget and the castle and the hermitage of San Andreu de Bestracà.

Camprodon is located at a height of 940 meters above sea level, nestled in the Pyrenean mountain range, with a mild climate in winter and soft in summer.

Points of interest

The Nou Bridge, construction of the twelfth century on the cover of which there are inscriptions of its reform and dating from the sixteenth and seventeenth century, was a place of obligatory passage to go to the Cerdanya.

The Monastery of Sant Pere, built on a Latin cross plan and reinforced by three arches with the central apse and octagonal dome where the square bell tower rests. It was founded in the middle of the 10th century.

The Church of Santa Maria, large parish church, finished with an angular apse and flanked by side altars. Attached to the construction was the chapel of the Dolores where the Pieta of the sculptor Amadeu is located. Inside the church there is a magnificent silver reliquary bust with the remains of San Patllari. In the front chapel you can admire a permanent exhibition of religious goldsmithing of the parishes of the Valley from the fifteenth to the twentieth centuries.

The Passeig Maristany, developed in the twenties of the last century and made expressly with the same measures and features as the Paseo de Gracia in Barcelona, ​​is surrounded by towers and mansions for the summer, made in the style of the early twentieth century. During a brief period it was a meeting point of the Government of the Republic in having the family residence of its president, Dr. Negrín.

In the Passeig de la Font Nova, remodeled in the second half of the 19th century, the first residences of holidaymakers were located, at the end of the walk a fountain and a bust of Dr. Robert remember who was the driver of the tourist activity in the area.

La Casa de la Vila, a sample of Catalan civil Gothic, has a unique reproduction of the Spanish Village of Barcelona.

The sources, in the municipality of Camprodon merge two rivers; the Ter and the Ritort, this fact makes it a place full of sources. In total, more than a fortnight are counted, distributed inside and outside the urban nucleus. The most representative are: San Patllari Fountain, where you can read some verses by Joan Maragall, the Boix fountain, the Vern fountain, the botàs fountain, the Forcarà fountain, the Can Moi fountain and the Llandrius fountain. Within the urban nucleus they emphasize the New Source and the Mare of the Source, where verses of the poet Jacint Verdaguer decorate this magnificent natural jet of water.

The fairs and festivals: touristic municipality par excellence since the 19th century, Camprodon has offered visitors a wide range of leisure and cultural activities with the programming of various events. The most outstanding festival, the main festival for June 21, is celebrated in honor of the patron saint of the Villa, San Patllari. According to popular legend, his relics remained in this municipality due to the stubbornness of a donkey. Apart from this festivity so marked, the Procession of the Holy Mysteries and other cultural events enrich the sociocultural life of this town that offers a wide range of proposals throughout the year. Traditional fairs such as the Camprodon essential, the Fair of the Immaculate fill the streets of the town with color and atmosphere.

Of route: to walk by Camprodon, to discover his sources scattered in natural places of great beauty, to visit the hermitage of Sant Valentí de Salarça and the one of Santa Maria de Bolós, both in the Valley of Bolós; the hermitage of Sant Miquel very close to the tower of Cavallera; go down to Rocabruna to admire the church of Sant Feliu and go up to the castle to enjoy the good view; continue to Beget to see a postal municipality where you can admire the Romanesque church of Sant Cristòfol and a splendid majesty or climb up to the hermitage of Sant Antoni, are just some of the proposals.

Taste: Camprodon and its Valley are recognized for the food products such as biscuits, sausage and cheese and meat, especially: lamb, veal and foal. Restoration is also known for its quality.

Isaac Albéniz: The name of this famous composer born in this village in 1860 is quickly associated with the name Camprodon. Several monuments that remember where he was born, when the centenary of this anniversary was celebrated, the church where he was baptized, and his connection with the municipality, are just some of the elements, that together with the Museum, a street, the Isaac Music Festival Albéniz, Elmonòlit and the Piano Suite sculpture honor his memory.
