With approximately 2,300 inhabitants, Camprodon is the largest municipality in the entire valley, covering 103 km², and the second largest in the province of Girona. The town of Camprodon includes the Estanell Colony, the Cavallera neighborhood, the ancestral homes of Mariner, Sitjar, and Resclusanys, the Freixenet neighborhood, the Font Rubí residential area, and, within the Alta Garrotxa region, the villages of Rocabruna and Beget, as well as the castle and hermitage of Sant Andreu de Bestracà.

Camprodon is situated at an altitude of 940 meters above sea level, nestled in the Pyrenees mountain range, with a cool climate in winter and mild in summer.

Places of interest

The Pont Nou , a 12th-century construction on whose facade there are inscriptions of its renovation dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, was an obligatory stop to go to Cerdanya.

The Monastery of Sant Pere, built on a Latin cross plan and reinforced by three arches, with a central apse and octagonal dome upon which rests the square bell tower. It was founded in the mid-10th century.

The Church of Santa Maria, a large parish church, features an angular apse and is flanked by side altars. Attached to the building is the Chapel of Sorrows, which houses a Pietà by the sculptor Amadeu. Inside the church is a magnificent silver reliquary bust containing the remains of Saint Patllari. In the chapel opposite, a permanent exhibition of religious silverware from the parishes of the Valley, dating from the 15th to the 20th centuries, can be admired.

Passeig Maristany, developed in the 1920s and expressly designed with the same dimensions and characteristics as Passeig de Gràcia in Barcelona, is lined with summer villas and mansions built in the early 20th-century style. For a brief period, it served as a meeting place for the Republican government and housed the family residence of its president, Dr. Negrín.

In the Passeig de la Font Nova, remodeled in the second half of the 19th century, the first summer residences were located; at the end of the promenade a fountain and a bust of Dr. Robert commemorate who was the driving force behind the tourist activity of the area.

The Casa de la Vila, a prime example of Catalan civil Gothic architecture, features a unique reproduction of the Spanish Village of Barcelona.

The springs in the municipality of Camprodon are located at the confluence of two rivers, the Ter and the Ritort, making it a place rich in them. In total, there are more than fifteen springs, scattered both within and outside the town center. The most notable are: the Sant Patllari Spring, where verses by Joan Maragall can be read; the Boix Spring; the Vern Spring; the Botàs Spring; the Forcarà Spring; the Can Moi Spring; and the Llandrius Spring. Within the town itself, the Nova Spring and the Mare de la Font (Mother of the Spring) stand out, the latter adorned with verses by the poet Jacint Verdaguer.

Fairs and Festivals: A quintessential tourist destination since the 19th century, Camprodon offers visitors a wide range of leisure and cultural activities through its diverse program of events. The most important festival, the main festival on June 21st, is celebrated in honor of the town's patron saint, San Patllari. According to local legend, his relics remained in the town due to the stubbornness of a donkey. Besides this important celebration, the Procession of the Holy Mysteries and other cultural events enrich the socio-cultural life of this town, which offers a wide array of activities throughout the year. Traditional fairs such as Camprodon Essential and the Purísima Fair fill the town's streets with color and atmosphere.

On the route: stroll through Camprodon, discover its fountains scattered in beautiful natural settings, visit the hermitage of Sant Valentí de Salarça and that of Santa Maria de Bolós, both in the Bolós Valley; the hermitage of Sant Miquel very close to the Cavallera tower; go down to Rocabruna to admire the church of Sant Feliu and climb to the castle to enjoy the good view; continue to Beget to see a picture-postcard town where you can admire the Romanesque church of Sant Cristòfol and a splendid Majesty or climb up to the hermitage of Sant Antoni, are just some of the suggestions.

Taste: Camprodon and its valley are renowned for their food products, such as biscuits, cured meats and cheeses, and meats, especially lamb, beef, and horse meat. They are also particularly well-known in the restaurant industry for their quality.

Isaac Albéniz: The name of this celebrated composer, born in this town in 1860, is immediately associated with Camprodon. Several monuments commemorating his birthplace, the centenary of his birth, the church where he was baptized, and his connection to the municipality are just some of the elements that, along with the Museum, a street named after him, the Isaac Albéniz Music Festival, the monolith, and the sculpture of the Piano Suite, honor his memory.
