Candelaria Festival in Calafell
Calafell celebrates the Candelaria Festival once again!
The Candelaria Festival is a winter festival that had been lost and was recovered in 1992. It concentrates its events in the old town of the municipality and is dedicated to the Virgen de la Cueva, an invocation venerated in the church of the Castle of Santa Creu and which is celebrated on the same day as Candlemas.
The cult of Our Lady of the Cave dates back to the early Middle Ages (a Romanesque carving is documented that was destroyed during the Civil War) and is related to the Catalan tradition of the found virgins.
