Major Festival of San Félix de Vilafranca del Penedès
Discover the Vilafranca del Penedès Festival, the most traditional and exciting in the area, declared a Heritage Festival of National Interest by the Generalitat of Catalonia. The city dresses up to honour its patron saint, Sant Fèlix, in a celebration full of devotion, folklore and spectacle.
The ritual structure of the festival follows the festive model of Penedès and Camp de Tarragona, with cercaviles, castells and processions that fill the streets with life. The three central days of the Festival (29, 30 and 31 August) are lived intensely: a parade in the morning, castles at midday and a procession in the evening, in a cycle that is repeated, keeping the tradition alive.
One of the pillars of the festival are the Administrators, five Vilafrancans in charge of organizing the festival and ensuring its smooth running. They light the Tronada, preside over the performances from the balcony of the Town Hall, take part in the processions carrying the banner and follow the religious services from the first bench of the Basilica of Santa Maria. Their work is essential to maintain the spirit and organization of this century-old festival.
The devotion to San Félix is felt in every corner of the city: the Basilica fills up to listen to the Goigs, families wait for the moment to take a photo with the saint, and the holy card that is given out with the program of the Festival occupies a privileged place in all the homes of Vilafranca. This connection between faith and tradition makes the Fiesta Mayor of Vilafranca a unique and unforgettable experience.
I came to experience the magic of Vilafranca: giants, devils, imposing castles and the passion of a town that loves its festival like no other.
We are waiting for you!
