El Misteri de La Selva

El Misteri de La Selva is the first Assumptionist drama written in the Romance language (Catalan from the second half of the 14th century) preserved in its entirety.

Consolidated as a cultural event of the first order in Catalonia, with great philological and musicological interest. The anonymous text allows us to enjoy the refinement of the troubadour lexicon and the chapel songs, which are mostly interpreted with the same song indicated in the original manuscript, and belonging to the Gregorian repertoire of the 13th and 14th centuries.

In the case of the Assumptionist drama that is represented in the Selva del Camp, all the music belongs to the Gregorian or polyphonic repertoire of the 13th and 14th centuries, with the particularity that most of the songs are interpreted with the same tune indicated by the manuscript consueta.

Year after year, the Mystery is interpreted and sung by the people of the Jungle and this singularity makes the Misteri a unique representation. Every year it is the people of Selvatana who, rehearsal after rehearsal, turn this cultural asset into a living reality.

It could not be otherwise. The Representation of the Assumption of Madonna Santa Maria found in this century-old villa the fertile ground in two of its most characteristic activities: theater and music.
