Sant Cugat Sesgarrigues

The municipality of Sant Cugat Sesgarrigues is located in the center of the central Penedès depression. And it belongs to the Alt Penedès region. It has an extension of 6'29 square kilometers and limits with the terms of Avinyonet, Olèrdola and La Granada. One of the main characteristics of this municipality is that it rises on a fundamentally flat terrain, only a little bumpy to the south, where Puig del Pi de Barba is located, bordering on Avinyonet.

Sant Cugat, is limited by the N-340 road, in view of the nucleus of "Les Cases Roges". In fact, formerly, in this place, there was a real road at the foot of which, the "Puigcigró district" was established . And in addition, several farmhouses complete the rural landscape of St. Cugatenc.

In terms of communication routes, in addition to the county and the Cañada, which connects them with the towns of Avinyonet, Granada and Cabañas respectively, we must remember the importance of the passage, in one of the ends of the town, of the N - 340

Sant Cugat currently has an approximate population of nine hundred inhabitants; that are distributed by the nucleus itself, and by the aforementioned neighborhoods of Las Casas Rojas and Puigcigró.

The main economic activity of Sant Cugat Sesgarrigues has always been agriculture; and in a very special way the cultivation of the vineyard. In fact, the quality of its vineyards and wines is recognized. It is not in vain that a grape cluster presides over the municipality's coat of arms. From very remote times, the Xarel·lo has recognized fame and prestige, and is thus testified by poets, writers, oenologists and gastronomes.

This aspect explains that since the beginning of the century cooperative-type movements began to materialize finally in the Cooperative Agricultural Union Foundation, which disappeared, however, during the Civil War. Recently, several wine and cava wineries have installed in the municipality; as well as some industrial companies.
