Living Nativity of Castell d'Aro
The Living Nativity of Castell d'Aro begins in 1959 with the help of Father Gumersind and the Bas family. Mosén Gumersind declares, in his memoirs, that he was inspired by the Living Manger of Engordany (Andorra) created by Esteve Albert.
That first Christmas, the representation is framed by the ruins of the castle of Benedormiens where only the birth is staged. Given the good reception by the people of the town, it was possible that the following year more families are encouraged to collaborate, with that original initiative, extending the route year after year and giving continuity, to this day, of what is the oldest living crib in Catalonia.
In 2004 the Association of the Living Bethlehem was created, thus beginning a new stage in its history. And in 2011 the Living Nativity of Castell d'Aro was awarded the Cross of San Jorge.
