Major Festival of Sant Pau in Sant Pere de Ribes
Sant Pere de Ribes celebrates the Major Festival of Sant Pau!
The origin of the main festival of Sant Pau (January 25) dates back to the meetings held by the town's inhabitants in the hermitage. These meetings have evolved to become the festival we know today, in which popular dances, bestiary pieces, citizens and municipal representatives climb to the hermitage along the dirt road that passes between the vineyards.
The most notable events of the Festival are the proclamation, the correfoc, the children's trip to and from the hermitage, the fireworks at the beginning of the festival, the throwing of mortars and the ringing of bells, the cane dance through the farmhouses of Ribes, the eve parade, the morning parade, to and from the hermitage.
Currently, it is the only popular example of these characteristics found in the Penedès area. The Sant Pau Festival has been included in 2019 in the Catalog of Festive Heritage of Catalonia.
