Sant Jordi in Palafrugell
Palafrugell celebrates Sant Jordi with an extensive and diverse program that runs from April 18 to 26, with activities designed for all audiences and with culture, literature and participation as central themes.
The events begin with open days at cultural facilities, workshops, and guided tours, as well as original offerings such as bread-making workshops, literary routes dedicated to Josep Pla, and creative activities related to the world of books. Throughout the week, there are also opportunities for citizen participation, such as the literary initiative in local businesses, which encourages the creation of collaborative texts and fosters the involvement of the local community.
The days leading up to Catalonia's National Day (Diada) include family activities such as storytelling and Catalan rap workshops, as well as shows and guided tours that combine culture and heritage. Also noteworthy is the Josep Pla and Francesc Alsius Literary Competition, which recognizes young talent and strengthens the town's connection to literature.
On April 23rd, Sant Jordi's Day, the center of Palafrugell is filled with stalls selling books and roses, with the participation of bookstores, florists, and other organizations. The day includes sardana dances, educational activities, special live radio programs, and official events, such as tributes to local writers and continuous readings of literary works. The public reading becomes one of the most emblematic moments, inviting everyone to actively participate.
The final weekend is rounded out with family shows, creative workshops, poetry recitals and cultural events in emblematic spaces of the municipality, consolidating a celebration that combines tradition, culture and citizen participation.
Sant Jordi in Palafrugell is presented as a lively and diverse festival, which transforms the municipality into a great cultural stage centered around books, roses and creativity.
