Guided tour "Two Cloisters and a master builder" Girona and Sant Cugat
Two cloisters, one master, and an extraordinary legacy. Discover the work of Arnau Cadell in the cloisters of Girona Cathedral and Sant Cugat Monastery.
Two cloisters geographically distant, but connected by the hand of the same master. Arnau Cadell is a fundamental figure in Catalan Romanesque sculpture, and his legacy can be seen in two of the country's great heritage sites: Girona Cathedral and the Monastery of Sant Cugat.
The series "Two Cloisters and One Master Sculptor" invites you to explore this connection through two free guided tours. The first will take place in Girona, where you can closely observe the rich sculptures of the Cathedral cloister and learn about the details that characterize the work of Arnau Cadell.
The following day, the tour continues at the Monastery of Sant Cugat, one of the leading examples of Catalan Romanesque architecture, to explore its magnificent cloister and the numerous sculptural elements it houses. Among these, a unique capital stands out, in which Arnau Cadell himself included a self-portrait, thus confirming his authorship.
An opportunity to delve into medieval history, architecture and sculpture through two unique heritage sites and the figure of a master who left an indelible mark on Catalan Romanesque art.
