La Passió de Sant Climent Sescebes
The Passion Play of Sant Climent Sescebes has two characteristics that distinguish it from any other Passion Play. On the one hand, the space where it is performed, l'Horta d'en Cusí, is a natural open-air environment that lends it a realism and authenticity difficult to find in a conventional setting; on the other hand, it has its own text that is reviewed and updated every year.
An entire village dedicated to Catalan folk theater. Every Easter, Sant Climent Sescebes experiences one of the most special moments on its cultural and social calendar. What began in 1976 as a simple, community-based initiative by Father Josep Barcons has become a well-established tradition approaching half a century.
This year, 2026, marks the 50th Anniversary of the Passion Play in Sant Climent Sescebes, a unique natural setting, specifically in l'Horta d'en Cusí. A place of stone and vegetation, without elaborate artifice or technology, where the audience experiences the Gospel drama with proximity and intensity, in an intimate and respectful atmosphere.
A Passion with its own personality, a spontaneous performance where the actors and actresses are mostly authentic, residents of municipalities in our region eager to enjoy and relive the experience in l'Horta d'en Cusí, year after year with total involvement.
Without claiming to be the oldest or the largest, it occupies its place with dignity, authenticity, and a human and community value to be preserved.
