Experience the solar eclipse in Altafulla!

Altafulla will experience an exceptional day on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, with the arrival of a total solar eclipse, an astronomical phenomenon that has not been observed in Catalonia since 1905 and will not be repeated in the same territory for many decades.

In the Tarragona region, the eclipse will begin at approximately 7:35 p.m. and end at 9:21 p.m. The most anticipated moment will arrive around 8:29 p.m., when the Moon will completely cover the Sun. In Altafulla, the totality phase is expected to last 53 seconds.

The Catalan government has selected the Mirador dels Munts viewpoint as one of its recommended observation points due to its excellent visibility and safety. It's important to note that the sun will be very low on the horizon during totality, making the choice of a location with a good view to the west essential.

To observe the phenomenon safely, it is essential to use eclipse glasses or solar filters certified according to ISO 12312-2. Conventional sunglasses, X-ray film, smoked glass, and homemade filters are not suitable. The phenomenon can only be viewed without eye protection during the brief moments of totality.

In anticipation of a large turnout, Altafulla will implement a special traffic and security plan, with traffic restrictions at the main viewing points. Visitors are advised to arrive early, stay hydrated, protect themselves from the sun, and follow the instructions of the event organizers.
