Exhibition "Protegiu-nos de tot mal" by Jordi Borràs - Baix Pallars

The Gerri de la Sal Museum is hosting "Protegiu-nos de tot mal" (Protect Us from All Evil), an exhibition by LA MIRA featuring photographs by photojournalist Jordi Borràs. The exhibition, open from August 9 to October 25, 2026, invites you to discover a world of folk beliefs, everyday rituals, and protective objects passed down through generations.
The exhibition focuses on amulets and symbols that have traditionally been used to protect homes and people from bad luck, illness, or other dangers. Many of these items are still part of our homes and customs, although we have often forgotten their origin and meaning.
Why do we make a cross on the bread before cutting it? Why do we hang certain objects behind a door? What is the meaning of the symbols we still keep in our godparents' homes? Through these images, you can delve into these questions and observe how ancient beliefs remain present in small gestures of everyday life.
Jordi Borràs has spent years documenting this heritage, primarily throughout Catalonia, collecting objects, symbols, and rituals to which humankind has attributed protective powers. The result is an exhibition that celebrates a rich, diverse, and surprising legacy, one that has survived the passage of centuries and reached our time.
