Montagut i Oix

The municipal term of Montagut i Oix is ​​located to the north of the region of Garrotxa, in the so-called Alta Garrotxa. It is the only municipality in the region that borders the French border, and is the second largest and one of the largest in the province of Girona, with 93.7 km2. It limits to the north with the term of Camprodon, with the region of the Vallespir in the North Catalonia and with Albanyà; to the east with Sales de Llierca, Sant Joan les Fonts and Castellfollit de la Roca, and to the west, with La Vall de Bianya.

The term occupies a very mountainous sector of the high valley of the Fluvià, in the Alta Garrotxa. They cross the stream of Oix and the stream of Sant Aniol, which come together to form the Llierca river. At midday, from west to east, the Fluvià river passes. The most outstanding peaks are the Comanegra (1,558), the mount of the Witches (1,393), the mount of Bassegoda (1,375) and the mountain of the Coso (612) which is the jewel in the crown of the town of Montagut.

It is one of the municipalities that provides more extension within the Area of ​​Natural Interest of Alta Garrotxa. It also has a small part inside the Natural Park of the Volcanic Zone of La Garrotxa.

It has many neighborhoods and scattered and two population centers, which are Montagut-located on a large high plain between the Llierca and Fluvià, 276 meters above sea level, and Oix, surrounded by mountains and Alta Garrotxa, in a small elongated plain near the Riera de Oix, 471 meters high.

The municipality has facilities and a privileged situation. It is 10 kilometers from Olot, 11 from Besalú, 36 from Figueres and 44 from Girona.
