Els Plans de Sió

Organized by: Els Plans de Sió

The sculptor Jaume Vallverdú, based in Concabella, presents his Goddesses at the Castle during this last quarter of the year. The exhibition invites visitors on a conceptual and formal journey into the ancient world, with the aim of recovering the legacy of deities who, like the goddesses of the moon, water, fertility, and harvests, represented a spiritual response of our ancestors to the hardships of primitive life.

The exhibition brings together a selection of 27 terracotta sculptures created using the constructive modeling technique and subsequently fired at a high temperature of 1,260 degrees Celsius. Once removed from the kiln, the pieces receive no further treatment or glaze. However, the works incorporate engraved and encrypted messages which, despite their mysterious appearance, can be deciphered thanks to the provided correspondence with the Catalan alphabet.

Born in Hospitalet de Llobregat in 1954 and based in Granollers since 2000, Vallverdú has an extensive academic and artistic career. He trained at the Escola Massana and earned his degree and doctorate in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona, where he served as a tenured professor of sculpture in the Faculty of Fine Arts between 1985 and 2024. That same year, upon his retirement, he moved his studio to Concabella.

Throughout his career he has participated in numerous individual and collective exhibitions in museums and galleries in Catalonia, including the Lleonart Gallery in Barcelona, the Granollers Museum, the Museum of Rural Life, the Hospitalet Museum, the Argentona Pitcher Museum and, more recently, the Tramuntana Gallery.
