Poets of Music - CaixaForum, La Caixa Foundation
Organized by: CaixaForum, Fundació La Caixa
During the Romantic period, composers aspired to be poets of sound (Tondichter). Poeticity was an aesthetic category and a point of reference in their creative process. Immersed in a context where all the arts aspired to be one, many found in literature a medium from which to draw narrative archetypes, symbolic images, and the quintessence of the poetic.
This cycle delves into the projection of the literary in 19th-century instrumental music, approaching composers such as Beethoven, Chopin, Schumann, Brahms, Mahler, and also the Spaniard Conrado del Campo to analyze the various ways in which music and literature are related.
By Irene de Juan Bernabeu, musicologist, pianist and musical disseminator
