The Pau Casals Monument in Cubelles is a tribute to one of the most universal figures in Catalan music and one of the most outstanding cellists of all time. This sculpture, the work of artist Pedro Llorente Benítez, was created in 1977, when Cubelles joined in the commemorative events for the centenary of the musician's birth. The monument stands as a testament to the recognition and admiration for an artist who left an indelible mark on the history of music.

Pau Casals i Defilló was born in El Vendrell on December 29, 1876 and died in San Juan, Puerto Rico on October 22, 1973. Considered one of the best cellists of the 20th century, he revolutionized the interpretation of this instrument and achieved great international prestige thanks to his talent, sensitivity and extraordinary expressive capacity.

Beyond his musical career, Pau Casals was also known for his commitment to peace, freedom, and human rights. Throughout his life, he championed these ideals and used music as a tool to convey a message of hope and coexistence. He remains a recognized cultural and humanist icon worldwide.

With the installation of this monument, Cubelles wanted to pay tribute to the artistic and human legacy of Pau Casals, joining the numerous towns that remembered his figure on the occasion of the first centenary of his birth.

The Pau Casals Monument is a point of interest for visitors who want to discover the cultural and sculptural heritage of Cubelles. It is a work that invites us to remember the life of an exceptional musician and the universal values he championed throughout his career.
