Hot air balloon flight over the Pre-Pyrenees - Globus Kon-Tiki
Organized by: Globus Kon-Tiki
Flying in a hot air balloon over the Camarasa and Sant Llorenç de Montgai area is something special. It's not just about ascending into the sky and admiring the landscape from above. It's about being in the heart of the Pre-Pyrenees, surrounded by water, mountains, and rock faces, and discovering an environment that transforms completely when viewed from the air.
The experience begins early, usually shortly after sunrise. At that time, the atmosphere is generally calmer, the light is soft, and everything is conducive to enjoying the flight at a relaxed pace. Before takeoff, there's also a beautiful moment: watching the balloon being prepared, the envelope being spread out on the ground, and how it gradually takes shape. For many people, that part becomes a cherished memory.
The launch takes place from Sant Llorenç de Montgai, next to the Camarasa reservoir. From the very first minutes, the landscape begins to unfold beneath the basket. The reservoir, the mountains, the fields, the paths, and those rock walls that reach heights of up to 300 meters come into view. Everything looks different, with a blend of silence and vastness that is difficult to describe until you experience it.
This area is part of the Origens Geopark, and that's reflected in the character of the landscape. It's not a flat or monotonous flight. There are varied terrains, contrasts, small villages, and hidden corners that might go unnoticed from the ground. During the flight, you can see places like Camarasa, Les Avellanes, and Cubells, although each flight is always dependent on the wind. That's precisely one of the most beautiful things about flying in a hot air balloon: no two flights are ever the same.
When weather conditions are good, you can reach altitudes of up to 2,500 meters in this area. This isn't always the case, as safety and weather forecasts influence the experience, but when the day is clear, the view is truly breathtaking. From that height, the balloon flight over the Pre-Pyrenees is particularly striking: the reservoir, the mountains, and the villages are all connected in a panorama that's hard to forget.
The activity isn't limited to just the time spent in the air. It includes balloon inflation, an approximately one-hour flight, and landing. Afterward, the team returns to the departure point in a 4x4 vehicle. High-definition photos, taken from the basket and from the ground, are also provided, along with a flight certificate. To conclude the experience, a light snack is served with a cava toast, cheese chips, breadsticks with hummus, nuts, and water.
As the flight depends on wind and weather conditions, the exact time and location are confirmed one to two days in advance via email. Flights typically take place in the morning, about 30 minutes after sunrise. The meeting point is near Sant Llorenç de Montgai, with a parking area next to the LV-9047 road, just before reaching the town.
A hot air balloon flight over Camarasa is the perfect plan for those seeking nature, tranquility, and a unique experience without any fuss. It's ideal as a gift, for a romantic getaway, or simply for enjoying a different kind of morning amidst one of the most beautiful landscapes of the Catalan Pre-Pyrenees.
